WHAT TO BRING THE FIRST DAY
You know your child best. Bring what will give them comfort and the reassurance that you will return for them. Children often do not have the confidence that they are important to you and are fearful that you may not return. They do however, know that certain things are important to you. A key, a picture, a scarf, something you appear to value. If you choose you can leave something small with your child that will reassure them that you do plan to return. Keeping in mind that space is limited, we suggest the following:
Pre school only
- A special blanket or animal marked with their name and a pillowcase to keep them in. The blankets will be taken home on Fridays to be cleaned.
- Something that smells like you that your child can hold in a stressful time and be reassured. A shirt can easily be stored until needed.
- A picture of your child that the center can keep for the job board and cubbie.
- A family picture which has been laminated so they can carry it around.
- Wear a happy face and have a positive attitude. This is a wonderful program and show your happiness that your child has the opportunity to be a part of it. It's going to be a lot of fun.
- Be certain that all vaccination, emergency and other forms have been turned in to Kid Kountry .
- If your child is potty training they must wear plastic or vinyl pants over the underwear.
All groups
- Please try to put your child in comfortable shoes as we play very hard. Your child must be able to run. We also require that if your child wears a dress or skirt that they wear shorts underneath.
- Labeled water bottle.
OUTSIDE PLAY
Outside experience will be provided for children on a daily basis. Because their body is growing so rapidly they need they need lot of opportunities to practice and develop their gross motor skills. All children will go out at least 20 minutes a day. Please have your child dress appropriately for the weather.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE PROCEDURES
Parents are required to sign in and out their child upon arrival and departure. Always make sure that a staff member is aware that you are bringing or taking your child.
To insure a happy arrival and departure, please have a goodbye ritual that you and your child have established. This may mean a hug, a kiss or a high five goodbye. This type of procedure helps the child know when you are leaving and what to expect. Never sneak out on your child . In the beginning, talk to them the night before about how you will be saying good by and reassure them of your return. Use positive word ideas. Explain the routine and do not let the child manipulate you the next day. Stick to your good by routine and you will both feel better.
In like order, tell the child how you want them to welcome you when you return for them. Your child has been working hard all day and it would be appropriate if you could take some time to hear about their day and read the weekly news letters, and lesson plans. However, if this is not possible, tell the child and give them the opportunity to understand your need to leave quickly. Transitions can be difficult for children but they do not have to turn into emotional scenes. Please try to prepare your child ahead of time. |
